What is the Kinesiology Taping?
Kinesiology tape (or KT tape for short) was originally invented by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1970. Dr. Kase created a tape that enhanced the patient's natural healing properties while prolonging the benefits of his treatments to his patients. It didn't become popular until the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. There it was introduced into the public by Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor who dominated with 2008 beach volleyball event.
Research has found KT tape to be effective in increasing lymphatic drainage(swelling), decompress an overwhelmed tissue, and provide stimulus to improve body awareness.
Kinesiology taping helps you maintain your workout or the ability to work without pain especially when most of us do not have the option to take time off. This technique is also helpful for new mothers to help support and strengthen abdominal muscles.
The benefits of KT taping are extensive and uses vary based on the experience of the certified practitioner. This physical therapy tape has the ability to affect the neuromuscular connection by either exciting or calming a muscle. The tape reduces swelling by increasing lymphatic drainage that can help an injured muscle or significantly decrease the swelling of a twisted ankle. By proving stimulus to improve your posture at the injured site, the body can avoid further injuring the joint while maintaining the full range of motion.
Kinesiology Taping reduces pain and healing time by:
-
01
Decompressing the injured area of swelling and inflammation by facilitating your body's natural lymphatic system
-
02
Distributes physical stress to other nearby fascia, ligaments, and bones
-
03
Elastic properties without hindering the body's normal range of motion
-
04
Delays fatigue to the body by recruiting the surrounding tissue to allow the injured muscle or joint that is not working properly to rest and repair
-
05
Normalizes muscle tone not only can tape protect a muscle, it can also reactivate muscles that are dormant. This enhances coordination and healing.
