Chiropractic Care Reduces Lower Back Pain In Pregnant Women, New Report Shows
Many parents and healthcare providers are discovering the benefits of seeing a webster certified chiropractor during pregnancy. The Webster technique helps both mother and baby maintain normal physiological function throughout pregnancy and birth.
The Webster technique is a type of chiropractic adjustment used in professional chiropractic clinics to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction, which can contribute to difficult labor. The technique has also recently been found to reduce lower back pain and improve sleep during pregnancy.
New report shows Webster technique reduces lower back pain
According to a recent report published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health, chiropractic care using the Webster technique was effective in treating lower back pain in a pregnant patient. The resolution of the patient's back pain allowed her to continue to work throughout the duration of her pregnancy.
The report involved a 24-year-old patient in her 10th week of pregnancy. The patient had been suffering from lower back pain that began with her pregnancy. The patient had been suffering from chronic upper back pain prior to her pregnancy.
The patient's lower back pain began approximately eight weeks before she sought out a chiropractic care team. Her upper back pain and tightness had been longstanding for two years.
The patient said that both her upper and lower back pain were provoked after prolonged standing or sitting. She attempted to relieve the pain prior to treatment by resting, laying down, and using a cold pack.
The patient was treated using both the Webster technique and Thompson technique. Initial care was set at two times weekly for three to four weeks. After initial care, she received treatment once a week throughout her pregnancy.
Patient was able to sleep and work without pain
The patient attended 16 visits over a period of three months. As a result of her chiropractic care, the patient was able to get a better night's sleep because of reduced pain. She was also able to work without pain.
As a result of her treatment results, the patient chose to continue her chiropractic care throughout the duration of her pregnancy. The report's findings add to growing evidence on the effectiveness of chiropractic care during pregnancy.
